Mainstream Forest-Based Bioeconomy Impact Assessment (pdf)

The Finnish Forest Bioeconomy Science Panel reviewed the impacts of EU environmental, climate and energy policy measures on the use and management of forests. Based on existing literature, the review found that for many such measures the impacts on wood production have not been evaluated, and very little assessment has been made of the overall impacts of different policy measures. Messages from the Finnish Forest Bioeconomy Science Panel to the new European Commission (pdf)

European forests play key roles in the green transition, including the supply of renewable raw materials, safeguarding biodiversity, and acting as carbon sinks and storages. The Finnish Forest Bioeconomy Science Panel suggests themes to which the new EU Commission should pay further attention. The panel’s messages to the Commission were first published in autumn 2023. This is the third version of the publication.
